How to Make Acrylic Surface Coating

How to make acrylic surface coating.

Acrylic sports surfaces have some important features like:

  • Durability,
  • It is hygienical,
  • Easy for cleaning,
  • Easy to repair,

and some other benefits. When compared to the other type of surfacing materials, acrylic has a long lifetime even in high-density use. Acrylic is especially suitable for outside sports fields.

With an elastic feature, the acrylic surface coating is a prominence on antislip. On the other hand, the elasticity also provides the coating not to fracture easily.

Important Issues of Acrylic Surface Coating

During the coating process, two issues are important which are the condition of the surface and weather. These are directly affecting the coating and they should be carefully handled. The surface on which the acrylic will be implemented directly needs to be completely flat and smooth during the process. If the surface doesn’t have the desired conditions, the earthwork should be finished first.

And the second very important issue is the weather. In order to implement acrylic, we need to use some special chemicals that need a dry surface. Rain or snow can affect the chemicals and you should wait for the right weather conditions. Air temperature is another issue that should be a minimum of 10°C in order to make a good establishment. But after the establishment, you will have a well weather-proof surface that is durable against all types of outside effects.

The acrylic is a decorative product that can be implemented to small or wide areas, interior or outer places with a special synthetic infill. The acrylic coating is usually applied to asphalt or concrete surfaces with a special lining. The thicknesses application, although varies according to the type of sports, is generally 2-3 mm.

The acrylic coating materials are provided in barrels and in the form of a special liquid/jell. You should apply the materials layer by layer on appropriate weather conditions that are 10-12°C and without rain on asphalt or concrete surfaces. Another important issue is that we should give enough time to the layer. We should lay the material, wait for it to dry, and then move to the upper layer.

The Application Process

First of all, the surface defects should be coated with a special material. Then, by following the instructions we mentioned, the acrylic coating process will start. There should be not a tiny gap in the material from the first to the last layer. If the weather conditions are well, an ordinary application process can take from 5-7 days. The process is long because of the waiting process of drying.

If the surface is asphalt, you should be sure about the curing process is over and all the dirt, oil, and stains are cleaned. If the surface is concrete, you should turn it into asphalt if it is possible. And if it is not, you can apply the coating on concrete but you should keep that in your mind that concrete can crack easier than the asphalt.

Popular Acrylic Applications

The acrylic surface coating can be applied to all of the open and closed sports fields but the most popular ones are:

  • Tennis court,
  • Basketball court,
  • Volleyball court,
  • Multi-purpose sports fields.

The Application Process

The elastic feature is also beneficial for sportsman health because the surface prevents injuries against undesired fillings. This makes acrylic a perfect material for school sports fields.

As we mentioned before, acrylic is mostly preferred on tennis courts because the flexibility of the material increases the performance of the sportsmen. The tennis player can move more easily with the support of the field when compared to the other fields. This support is beneficial for sports like tennis that require high movement during the game.
